Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten

Parents and children have two opportunities – READY! for Kindergarten and Read N' Play to help prepare for the first day of school. These two opportunities at the Enterprise Elementary School District target little ones long before they enter Kindergarten.

The goal is to help all parents in the community prepare their children for the academic and social components of kindergarten and to help children learn what they should know by the time they start school. Data indicates that children who start school below grade level struggle to achieve and tend to have very low achievement through all grades.

Three READY! for Kindergarten classes are provided each year, in October, January, and April, for parents of children ages 0-5. The first 25 parents at each site are provided free materials and tools (a $60 value), which includes toys and children’s books, to help you give your child a great foundation for Kindergarten. Free childcare is available during the classes.

Read N' Play groups meet weekly for one hour on District school campuses. Parents and children who participate are given free books. These groups target children 2-5 years of age, and younger siblings are welcome to attend. The program is free. The weekly sessions include games, songs, stories, crafts, snacks, music, and many other fun activities.
